Automation
200 field crews, no phone dispatch
Two hundred field crews were dispatched by phone, so one cancellation meant hours of replanning. We built a scheduler that assigns jobs by skill, travel time and window, and replans automatically when a job moves.

We encoded the dispatcher’s rules, then let the system apply them.
Skills, certifications, travel time and job windows were already the rules of the job. Making them explicit let the schedule update itself instead of waiting on phone calls.
The result
Two hundred crews,
planned by the system.

The problem
One early cancellation meant hours of replanning by phone.
Every crew was dispatched with a phone call. When a job moved, the dispatcher had to work out the knock-on effects by hand and call each affected crew, while nobody else could see what had changed.

Phone dispatch
Every assignment and change went out as a call, one crew at a time.
Invisible knock-ons
A moved job rippled through the day with nobody able to see where.
Certification risk
Crew qualifications were checked from memory against the job type.
Real travel time
Plans had to reflect actual driving time between sites, not straight-line distance.

What we built
A schedule that redraws
itself when a job moves.

Field operations
Assignment by skill, travel time and job window, recalculated live.
The scheduler matches each job to a crew with the right certifications, a realistic drive and an open window. When a job moves, it reshuffles the affected part of the day and texts every crew whose plan changed.

How it works
Engineering decisions
Not every crew member would install an app. The day also arrives by text with a link, so nobody is left off the plan.
Yes. Any assignment can be pinned, and the scheduler plans around pinned work. Automation handles the routine changes; managers keep the final say.
Live routing data from Mapbox, so the plan reflects real roads and traffic rather than straight-line distance.
